Calon Pryce Nichols

We welcomed Calon Pryce on 3/1/13 at 8:28am, Friday morning. He weighed a whopping 7lbs 7oz and was 20 inches long with an amazing set of lungs and a decent head of hair. I made it through the c-section without having to be put under general anesthesia!! Woot woot! We had arranged to get the same anesthesiologist as last time because he knew my history. Now that I know what the c-section should've felt like...I KNOW that I HAD been feeling it and I'm not entirely nutzo. Fantastic. I got to hear my baby's first shriek of life and it was amazing.

But let's start the "birth" story at 5am because that is the ridiculous time I had to be at the hospital...again. Same procedure as last time, got admitted and hooked up to a MILLION and a half machines and tubes, lifelines and such. The nurse inserted my IV in the crook of my arm and every time I MOVED my arm, the little IV alarm would sound!! How CONVENIENT! Especially since that is something that stays in for TWO WHOLE DAYS. I just have to be careful about not moving my arm. At all.

I had to wait an hour because there was an emergency section ahead of me. The spinal tap hurt like a mofo. The anesthesiologist made sure I was numb and walked me through the entire c-section so I knew what and when they were doing stuff. I have a feeling everyone thought I was hyper-sensitive or post-traumatic stress syndrome from the last two times. Regardless, my left side was hard to numb...he kept hitting a nerve and I wanted to punch him every time he hit it. I was almost to the point of telling him to just knock me out. He seriously gave me a detailed play-by-play. At one point, when they were pressing down on my chest, a nurse got all up in my face and was telling me to breathe. I had, what felt like, a 200lb person on my chest and they want me to breathe??? I swear I was telling her that I was breathing but whatever. I don't really remember much after that. I was just glad I made it through the entire section awake.

This kid is a screamer.

OH

MY

GOODNESS

He would cry from the nursery and you could hear him in my room.

He can wake the dead...I kid you not.

He lost 10 ounces in the hospital...before my milk came in. He had a doctor appointment 5 days after birth and he had pretty much gained it all back...in 3 days...ah-hem...my milk rules. My little fatty. I hope he continues this growth pattern. I got clogged ducts the SECOND my milk came...go figure. I sort of expected it because this happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It's ridiculous. I just try to keep mastitis at bay. It's been close a couple of times but we will get there. During an 8 hour period, he wakes once (so basically he goes about 4 hours before waking on his own). I'm not pressing for him to sleep through the night because the last time (with Myles) I ended up pregnant extremely soon after that and I'd like to get my body back without becoming impregnated for the last time. Yes, you heard me...one more. BUT...the gap will hopefully be larger than 13 months. All of his brothers want to hold him. I'm glad they are interested.

So there you have it. My mom has been in town sice February 25th and is staying a month. She has been a huge help with everything. I'm trying not to think that she leaves in less than two weeks. It makes me sad.
